Tiger’s eye is a metamorphic rock and gemstone that’s a member of the quartz family. It’s known for its golden to red-brown color, silky luster, and striking banding patterns that resemble a tiger’s eye. Tiger’s eye gets its silky appearance from parallel quartz crystals and altered amphibole fibers that have turned into limonite. Light reflecting off these fibers creates a “cat’s eye” effect called chatoyancy.
